I've devised a way to make a deck on top of a dome (e.g. on my 2v "optimal" dome). You can find pictures and instructions here: www.timefold.com/domedeck
If you decide to build one, please let me know how it turns out, or contact me if you have any questions, or if the web site isn't clear or needs improvement.

Re: nosefish dome deck
Sun, March 11, 2007 - 9:16 AMNo calculations. But, I'm only using a windcloth cover on the very top of the 1v dome -- I'm not covering the sides. So, I think the amount of wind it catches from the side is pretty small. Also, I didn't make a traditional 1v dome, which has a pretty high roof. I used shorter struts for the top, which makes a shallower roof, and presents less of a profile to the wind. Since the bottom dome will be thoroughly staked down with rebar, I really am not concerned at all about the force of wind. The deck will be secured to the underlying structure with bungie balls, so it can't go flying.
As for carrying capacity, I think it will have no problems holding 4 people on top, as long as they are not all standing right on the same spot on the edge of the deck.
