anyone here into making tensegrity-based structures? i've gotten kind of obsessed, the biggest one i made had 30 struts, it was a nightmare to put together all alone but so satisfying.
maybe this merits its own tribe? i dunno. but i'd love to hear tips and tricks to doing it well...i'm kinda just going trial and error..

Re: tensegrity
Mon, April 3, 2006 - 3:02 PMHi Mike,
I've been doing some tensegrity stuff over the last couple of years... perhaps not quite true tensegrity as done by Snelson, since the solid pieces are in contact (though free to move against each other) at the vertices, or in other words, the tension components are very short :-)
There are some pics in my profile... do you have any pics?
My opinion, FWIW, is that it is better to stay in a larger tribe. The smaller specialized tribes fall below the critical mass necessary to sustain life. This one is teetering on the brink as it is <grin>
