Re: dome for sale?
Tue, October 5, 2004 - 8:53 PMWell it's a little too late..... I just checked out the tribe I started, as it's acquired 28 members now, and I saw your un-answered thread..... It's unfortunate, as I made my first fully covered piece (10 oz. cotton & vinyl cover), but made it for an individual who never quite learned such things as respect. I made the 32'er as a unique, efficient, dynamic piece of art; which I was only doing @ cost for the sake of photo opps for my web-site. He was too cheap, (for lack of a better word) to see the cost of covering my ticket, so that I could add a car to their camp, and help build what I had fabbed through my hands. The staging of it wasn't enough in SF, and I arrived two days after they had..... it wasn't finished, so I started to help, and was told "Right now, you're the last person I wanted touching this!" and walked away from it at a loss..... A learning experience in and of it's self. If he contests it, I can put the thing up with the same exact resources he had. It's slightly beyond that, as he showed serious signs of disrespect all through the project. Nuf said! The software I use only had 150 copies in 2003 when I registered my version, which is the only piece of software I've really paid signifigantly for. My lap top was stolen within a whole backpack about four months ago, which had 4 months of engineering, number crunching, financial projections and records, not to mention the years worth of personal relics, academic notes, bus. cards, haikos, and much much more of no value to anyone but myself. I'm rambling........
In short, if you still need a dome, I'd more than gladly work it out for you, and do it with equal skill and accuracy as Pac.Domes, but use the materials about 8x's more efficiently than they, as they started as a fabrics based company, which hasn't done that much with structure for over 30 years. I've been working with a 60 year old hippie fabric guru in Sebastopol on skins, and also have met another industrial sewer, and a mechanical engineer, who's got a 180' diameter dome standing in BC, which the technique for, is above and beyond the industry, in simplicity, cost, time, ellegance, etc..... I'm going to be utilizing this new technique if my research proves fruitful, which it should. If you'd like to discuss this in more detail, my desktop will be up within a week or so, as I'll be living w/ my Grandmother for the next two months while doing a fair bit of construction work in Ventura, and I can start re-doing my saved and stolen works, which I can send back and forth with different designs which should be well recieved, easy to assemble, and intuitive to fully enjoy! My site under dev. with a minor page is mostlycarbon.com, but it's only appoximately what I know to be fact, as I pulled numbers from memory, just to get something up. A mock up I'm collaborating with a friend on can be seen @ www.beatsforsale.com/test_si...dex.html
The final site, should be a measma of both, but with some flash enabled doo-hickeys a mad-scientist friend and I will remotely collaborate on. In short, I might be that guy! It's all a work in progress, but the skills I'm attempting to make available to help people have been under refinement for years. I'm just a mammal, I do what I can. Drop a line when you get a chance.
