No protection from rain or elements. There are a few small spots of surface rust here and there, but the struts seem fine. I imagine it would take many years before rust had any major effect on the struts. The problem areas are just the ends where the conduit has been cut and drilled and removed the zinc plating. if you painted those ends you should have nothing to worry about. Worst case scenario, you get some rust after a few years and have to sand and paint/repaint the problem struts. Either way I don't imagine this would have any effect on structural integrity for a very long time. I have both cut and uncut EMT piled outdoors around my house and there are no real signs of rust 1 year later. I don't think you have anything to worry about for many years. Hope this helps! Mine is under my houses crawl space but now that its gotten so cold and wet in Georgia I'm starting to get worried about rust/corrosion/wear and tear on the dome. After so much hard work I'd hate for it to become not usable.
